LIFE Geocarbon workshop at Kandila, Xiromeros

The event for the European LIFE Geocarbon project in Kandila Xiromeros - Alyzia, organized by ELGO Dimitra (Institute of Soil and Water Resources - ELGO) and the Municipality of Xiromeros, was successfully held on Monday 20 June 2022.

In addition to the Project Coordinator, Dr. Dimitris Triantaconstantis, Professor Konstantinos Bithas from the IAPAD of Panteion University, Professor Pantelis Varouchas from the University of Patras and the Soil Laboratory of Western Greece as well as PhD candidates Spyridon Detsikas and Filio Petridou spoke at the event.

Particular attention was given to the benefits of carbon sequestration agriculture both for the producer and for climate change mitigation. The audience responded with great interest by participating with comments that facilitated a constructive discussion.

The event was opened by the Mayor of Xiromeros, Mr. Yannis Triantafyllakis, who welcomed the participants of the LIFE Geocarbon project and stressed the importance of the project in recording the carbon footprint of crops. A short greeting was given by the politicians of the prefecture of Aitoloakarnania, Mrs. Georgia Boka and Mr. Thanasis Papathanasis.

The event was also honored with the presence of deputy mayors and Presidents of Communities of the Municipality of Xiromeros, a representative of the MP Mr. Kostas Karagounis, agronomists and producers of the wider region.
